Delhi Government announces 89,400 flats for homeless by 2025

NEW DELHI: As what could be said as a Diwali gift for the economically weaker sections of the society, the Government of Delhi, on Friday, November 13, announced its decision to construct 89,400 flats by 2025 for the homeless and slum dwellers.

A meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) chaired by Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, decided to change the lives of the homeless, who spend most of their lives without a proper house, which impacts their quality of life and, further, affects their children. The meeting was also attended by Satyendar Jain, the Vice-Chairperson of DUSIB; Renu Sharma, Chief of Urban Development department; and other members of the board.

The flats will be constructed in three phases over 237 acres with the deadline between 2022 and 2025. Kejriwal said that ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makaan’ is Delhi government’s flagship policy. He also added that it will be ensured that the flats are constructed within the given timeline so as every poor in Delhi is provided a shelter.
