NEW DELHI: East Delhi Municipal Corporation has devised a plan for strengthening the medical infrastructure and spread awareness on COVID-appropriate behavior and vaccination. Preparations are being undertaken in anticipation of the upcoming third wave of the pandemic.

Officials from all three municipal corporations of Delhi said both the waves had exhausted the medical system to its limits. Therefore, efforts are being made to ensure the situation does not repeat. “We are focusing on the vaccination drive and around 5.75 lakh people have been inoculated at our centers till date. If the situation worsens, we are prepared for the worst,” said Mukesh Suryan, Mayor, South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

In this scenario, vaccination is a major shield to secure people against the third wave. Mass media campaigns will be carried out soon in order to raise awareness, besides the vaccination drive. South Delhi Municipal Corporation is also planning to come up with a thematic radio jingle, which will be played on FM stations to generate more awareness on the importance of wearing masks and social distancing.

Amid a phased unlock in the Capital, seeing a close gathering of shoppers in markets and restaurants resuming their services, doctors have cautioned Delhi against a “worse than second wave situation” of COVID-19. People are advised to adhere to safety norms and not to lower their guards.
