NEW DELHI: The Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC), with the approval of Kailash Gahlot, Transport minister, has assembled a task force to ensure women safety in public transport in Delhi.

The move comes in the wake of a section of public transport experts claiming that there is no link between the proposed free travel scheme and the safety of women commuters.

“The task force will conduct both off and on ground reviewing and monitoring of all existing schemes for women’s safety,” said Jasmine Shah, Vice-Chairperson of DDC. She also stated that the task force would also include two daily female commuters nominated by the transport minister. The primary tasks of the newly created outfit would be to regularly monitor and evaluate the various steps, like including installation of CCTV cameras and panic buttons in buses implemented by Delhi government to improve women safety in the National Capital Territory (NCT) and will also strengthen the governments’ ‘Bus Marshal’ scheme, which has been in place in all government-run DTC buses since 2015.
