CM bans auto-rickshaws older than 10 years in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: In a bid to curb air pollution caused by vehicles, Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana, banned the use of auto-rickshaws which have been operational for more than 10 years. He further highlighted that the same are to be impounded by the respective authority in due time. He emphasised the need of a regulated and safe public transport system and said that the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, and the Gurugram traffic police would jointly prepare a policy for auto-rickshaws plying illegally without registration and carrying passengers more than the specified limit.

“The RTA office has challaned 145 auto-rickshaws and impounded 50 more than 10-year-old auto-rickshaws. Besides 5,166 auto-rickshaws have been challaned for not having the pollution under control certificate and more than 2.46 lakh challans have been issued for carrying passengers above capacity,” said Mohammad Imran Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner and secretary, RTA. He further adding that the city’s transport department has issued a notification for metering of the auto-rickshaws on May 30, and a tender would soon be invited.
