LONDON: The Extinction Rebellion group of climate change campaigners planned a protest at London’s Heathrow Airport on April 19, 2019. The group of protestors blocked several locations in central London in recent days after a semi-nude protest in parliament earlier in April 2019.

The London Police said that they have arrested more than 500 protestors and have charged 10 of them so far. And the leave for Easter Friday has been cancelled for some officers and called them for assistance to deal with the protestors who were causing unacceptable actions.

The group has demanded the British Government to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025 and to take action against global climate crisis.

A 23 year old media student, who travelled from central England and spent night at the protest site, Fflur Harman, said, “If we don’t do something now it’s going to have a catastrophic effect”.

The authorities of Heathrow airport said that they are working to address any threat of protest which could create disturbance at the airport on the Easter getaway. “While we respect the right to peaceful protest and agree with the need to take action on climate change, but, we don’t agree that passengers should disrupt their Easter holiday plans,” the authorities added.
