NEW DELHI: The Government of Chhattisgarh has taken up a pioneering initiative of setting up a first-of-its-kind Green Council, which aims to mitigate carbon footprint while improvising economic opportunities across the state. This initiative has been flagged under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Bhagel, and with the support of Swaniti Initiative, a non-partisan social enterprise.
This council will comprise of sector leaders, academic experts, and multilateral foundations who will provide technical counsel to the state government on issues relating to climate change and sustainability. This initiative aims to have a robust resolve to build a green economy and protect the vulnerable sections of the population via Green Council. The collaboration between Swaniti Initiative and the state government will fuel the goal of COP 26 to incorporate the research, development, and investments to develop greener economies.
The aforementioned council stands firm on the premise that the state governments have a proactive role to play in becoming self-reliant and progressing the economy through sustainable and inclusive efforts. This council will also work as a catalyst in achieving the higher objective. Moreover, it will be critical in establishing industry connections to ensure economic growth amongst low-income populations.
