CHANDIGARH: Health authorities of the union territory (UT) of Chandigarh will develop their own system to provide staggered timings to the recipients during the actual COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The necessity for such a feature was felt during the dry run conducted at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 and the civil hospitals in Sector 22 and Manimajra last week following which, the authorities had also provided feedback to the Centre.

Dr Amandeep Kaur Kang, Director, Health services of the UT of Chandigarh, said that they found that the beneficiaries could be provided with time slots with around one to two hours of difference so that the beneficiaries do not have to wait for too long. The whole process can take up to 5–6 hours if all vaccine recipients come at the same time. Hence, the development of a system is proposed that will apprise the beneficiaries of reduced time slots.

A second dry run to check the best way to vaccinate people against COVID-19 and improve faults in logistics and training is occurring across 737 districts in the country today. The first massive dry run was held on Saturday, January 2.
