CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Administration has announced that the Sukhna Lake would soon be declared as a wetland under the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017, and hence the authority would soon be monitoring the construction activities around the spot accordingly. According to sources, the department would be submitting detailed documents regarding the prohibited activities near the area to the Chandigarh Wetland Authority today, July 23.
Encroachment, setting up of any industry and expansion of existing industries, manufacture or handling or storage or disposal of construction and demolition waste covered under the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016, discharge of the untreated waste and effluents from industries, cities, towns, villages and other human settlements and any construction of permanent nature within 50 meters from the wetland will be banned. Poaching in the wetland area would also result in strict action.
