CHANDIGARH: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, inaugurated the Police Command and Control Centre (PCCC) at ICCC Complex in Sector 17, Chandigarh on July 30. The PCCC has been established under the ICCC project of Chandigarh Smart City. The Centre will monitor smart field elements of the city like CCTV surveillance cameras, wherein over 1000 cameras have already been installed for real time surveillance of traffic junctions and other important buildings at 285 locations of the city. The places include parks, government hospitals, water works, parking locations, community centres, schools, etc.

Dharam Pal, Advisor to the Administrator of Chandigarh said that the Chandigarh Smart City Mission is aimed at enhancing the safety, security and efficiency of municipal services and providing better quality of life for residents. It is for this purpose that the new Centre has been launched as part of fostering the development of a robust information and communication technology infrastructure of the city, he added.

The system used to develop the Centre uses artificial intelligence based advanced video analytics and generates automatic event alerts. This will help in real time surveillance of the city and in generating alarms for specific incidents.

Pal mentioned that the Intelligent Traffic Management system (ITMS) has been implemented. It includes traffic enforcement systems, including red light violation detection (40 junctions), over speed violation (10 systems), automatic number plate recognition (40 junctions and 20 entry and exits of the city). The Adaptive Traffic Control System monitors real time traffic conditions of the city and uses artificial intelligence and technology of machine learning to improve on managing the signal timing, thereby helping in easing the city’s traffic issues. Moreover, 24×7 help desk has been established to help citizens have their grievances addressed at a faster pace.
