CCEA revises project cost around 1,300 crore for dam’s safety

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) reconsiders the cost of a project in order to improve the safety of the 198 dams existing in seven states, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 19. The decision took place in the concern of the recent floods occurred in some states including the most affected state, Kerala.

The overall cost of Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) is Rs 3,466 crore with the World Bank assistance of Rs 2,628 crore. Rs 747 crore will be funded by DRIP states and the Central Water Commission will fund the rest Rs 91 crore.

Earlier the cost of DRIP was Rs 2,100 crore with the state providing of Rs 1,968 crore and central providing of Rs 132 crore. The deadline for project completion was declared on June 30, 2018, which is now extended to June 30, 2020.
