Cabinet approves holding of ULB polls without OBC reservation

RANCHI, Jharkhand: Chief Minister Hemant Soren led Jharkhand cabinet has approved the holding of urban body polls without OBC reservation. However, the reservation for the SC/ST community remains unchanged. The decision came after the cabinet meeting held on Monday, October 10, where a total of 19 proposals were approved.

The proposal for holding the ULB election without OBC reservation was proposed by the Urban Development Department, Government of Jharkhand.

Apart from this, the cabinet also approved direct election for ward members, presidents and mayors. While on the other hand, Vice Chairman and Deputy Mayor will be elected indirectly.

The cabinet also approved the Mukhyamantri Gram Gaadi Yojana – 2022, which was proposed by the Transport Department. The scheme will be launched by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren, on October 12, in a mega asset camp in Giridih. The camp will is being organised under the theme ‘your government – your right – your door’. The main objective of the theme is to encourage self-employment among the youth population in the state. The scheme includes a provision for subsidy on the purchase of a new vehicle for which the government has set aside Rs 20 crore.

The issue of raising the dearness allowance of the state government employees also got cabinet approval. This move will benefit around 3.25 lakh government employees and 1.90 lakh pensioners. The dearness allowance has been increased by 4 per cent. With this, the dearness allowance has reached to 38 per cent which was at 34 per cent earlier.
