KANCHIPURAM: The state government has decided to apply public-private partnership mode for construction of new bus stands under seven different municipalities in the state. This would ensure that civic bodies will get rid of the financial burden they would be subject to due to these projects.

Under this method private companies will be given land by civic bodies to construct, repair, maintain and keep the bus stand operations for 15-20 years after which it should be handed over to the concerned civic body.

The seven municipalities Kanchipuram, Tiruttani, Tiruvannamalai, Tindivanam, Mayiladuthurai, Namakkal and Dharmapuri will identify and provide land to the private company which will win the bid for the project. The successful bidder should construct the bus stand at the estimated cost indicated by the government.

The suggested cost for construction of bus stands at Kanchipuram is Rs 38 crore, Rs 20 crores at Tiruttani, Rs 30 crores at Tiruvannamalai, Rs 20 crores at Tindivanam, Rs 38 crores at Mayiladuthurai, Rs 51.63 crores at Namakkal and at Dharmapuraithe cost is Rs 39 crores.
