MUMBAI: In an attempt to provide an alternative to the parents of the students that are from economically weaker sections (EWS) diverting to private English medium schools, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to open 10 more schools with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. The proposal will be presented before the civic education committee on Thursday, January 21, for approval.
The move comes after BMC received a huge response during the admission of its newly started school in Jogeshwari – Mumbai Public School. Sainath Durge, Member of BMC’s Education Committee, Maharashtra, said that the plan is to provide an alternative to parents who are willing to shift to private English medium schools. The plan is to offer education with a non-state board curriculum from the next academic year 2020–21.
According to the proposal, 90 per cent of the admissions will be done by drawing lottery and will be free of cost. Alternatively, 5 per cent of the admission will be done according to the recommendation of the Mumbai Mayor and the remaining 5 per cent admission will be reserved for the children of BMC employees.
