BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an order to all the waste generators under its jurisdiction to keep two proper sized dustbins within their premises and store dry and wet waste in separate dustbins. The corporation has warned that a penalty of Rs 5000 will be imposed on those who fail to follow the norms.

The order was also issued to keep a 5-meter radius of the premises clean and door-to-door collection vehicles will take place by the BMC. Not handing segregated waste to the waste collection vehicles will lead to a fine of Rs 500, an order under section 343(a) of the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act 2003.

Vijay Amruta Kulange, BMC commissioner requested all the shopkeepers to clean their shops and put all the garbage in the specific dustbins rather than dumping it on the road.

The BMC is planning to monitor door-to-door garbage collection through the ‘Safa Bhubaneswar’ app, through which the residents will be able to book BMC garbage lifting vehicles to pick up commercial, party, and domestic waste. The residents will also be able to book water tankers and cesspool vehicles.

According to the BMC sources, a whopping Rs 65,000 was collected from vendors and traders in two days for sanitation guidelines violation and Rs 39,000 as a penalty for not using dustbins to segregate waste. They also collected Rs 43,000 from the South West zone, Rs 23,000 from the South East zone, and Rs 37,000 from the North zone.
