BHUBANESWAR: A transgender community was vaccinated for COVID-19 in Bhubaneswar on Monday, June 14, during a drive launched by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Kalyan Mandap. Monti, a trans person, said that the community is very happy and thankful to BMC to provide the first dose of Covaxin in Bhubaneswar.
Anshuman Rath, Zonal Deputy Commissioner, South-east Bhubaneswar, said that those members of the transgender community who do not have an identity card have also been administered the first jab of vaccine. He also added that there are around 500 transgender in Bhubaneswar and those who do not have their identity card like Aadhar Card or other documents have also been administered the first dose of the vaccine.
Rath said that the transgender community has played a key role during the pandemic in serving the society.
