KOLKATA: The Government of Kolkata has decided to augment the Green City project in the Alipore area, Kolkata by shifting two prisons from the location and utilising the vacant plots for the project.
Following the Green city project, the Alipore Central Correctional Home has already been relocated to Baruipur. Now the initiative demands relocation of the Presidency Correctional Home to Baruipur and Alipore Women’s Correctional Home to Howrah. If these establishments are casted out of the Alipore area, the state would have more than 150 acres of free land for carrying out the Green City project, said a senior government official.
Under this project, the Government of Bengal plans on constructing residential buildings. The urban development department is the nodal agency for all the developments that will take place under the Green City Mission in Bengal. According to the state government, the main focus of the Green City project is to create enough eco-space, sustainable groundwater recharge system along with modern transport and low emissions. The project encountered a number of roadblocks but the government still stands firm on expediting the project.
