Assam govt set to implement ‘Doh Shaher, Ek Rupayan’ initiative

DISPUR, Assam: Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of Assam, chaired a meeting to deliberate on the implementation of the ‘Doh Shaher, Ek Rupayan’ initiative spearheaded by the Housing and Urban Affairs Department in the state.

This ambitious project aims to facilitate well-planned and swift development in cities such as Silchar, Nagaon, Bangaigaon, Biswanath Chariali, Karimganj, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat, Tezpur, Sibsagar, and North Lakhimpur.

The meeting addressed crucial aspects including urban planning, waste management, water supply, infrastructure, and traffic control.

Kavitha Padmanabhan, Commissioner and Secretary, Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of Assam, presented the concept, emphasising on rationalisation, online service delivery, and financial infrastructure strengthening. 

The proposed improvements cover a range of areas, from infrastructure development to beautification and environmental initiatives. 

The proposed towns are scheduled for comprehensive improvements across various domains.  Under the City Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF), initiatives will include the establishment of conference halls, city beautification, an open-air theatre, pavilions, traffic control systems, convention centres, markets, and sports complexes.

The Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) will be used to make convention centres, halls, parks open spaces, ISBT, and the beautification of public areas. 

The Directorate of Municipal Administration will oversee street lights and pave block streets. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), the emphasis will be on water supply and the development of water bodies. 

The Swachh Bharat Mission will take on initiatives like Door-to-Door collection of solid waste, waste processing, and waste disposal at dumping grounds.
