AURANGABAD: The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (ASCDCL) has appointed an agency to construct 150 new bus shelters in the city as a part of its part of its plan to improve public transport in the city.

The ASCDCL has told the agency to develop the bus shelter in such a way that it can generate revenue through advertisement. After the Smart City Bus Service was introduced in January, the residents felt the need for bus shelters. Subsequently, Nipun Vinayak, CEO, ASCDCL announced 150 new bus shelters in the city. Earlier in June, the ASCDCL had handed over the contract of erecting the bus shelters to a private agency.

As a part of the project, ASCDCL has already identified 150 locations in the city to erect the new bus shelters. The shelters are designed in such a way that private agency can rent out the space for advertisements. The bus shelters are of three dimensions viz. 25-feet wide, 20-feet and 15 feet wide.

The first bus shelter has come up near Aurangabad railway station premises and was built in five days and is made of stainless steel.

According to Pushkal Shivam, senior consultant, ASCDCL, it would take another six months for the construction of bus shelters to be completed. “Though it does not take a lot of time for the bus shelters to be erected, the key factors in the completion of the project is availability of firm land for its foundation,” he said.
