AGRA: Agra Municipal Corporation develops city’s first six block e-toilet at Fatehabad Road. The project has started under Smart City Mission with the cost of Rs 36 lakh. Public can use the fully automatic e-toilet by inserting a Rs 5 coin in a slot designed specifically. Currently, there is no water supply connection in the toilets. The remaining work is expected to be completed within two weeks. R K Singh, AMC executive engineer (civil) said, “For the first phase, AMC is targeting to install seven more such e-toilets in the city – mainly major marketplaces and tourist spots.” Earlier, the construction of public toilets was not less than a challenge to AMC due to non-availability of government land at marketplace. AMC was also facing the maintenance problems with the installed public toilets. Keeping in mind all these problems, AMC last year decided to start a project to set up fully automatic e-toilets.
Rajeev Rathi, AMC executive engineer (Environment) said, “The e-toilets are portable, eco-friendly and hygienically maintained by GPRS facility. These toilets work on sensor-based technology. It has a self-cleaning and water conservation machine. These are unmanned toilets with automated access control. Waste processing is done through small Sewer Treatment Plant (STP) attached with these toilets.” The e-toilets has a solar roof top panel for alternate energy need, he added.
