NEW DELHI- Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family welfare, Government of India, said on Thursday, January 28, that 70 per cent of COVID-19 positive cases are from the states of Kerala and Maharashtra. He added that till now, 153 cases of the new UK variant of coronavirus have also been detected in the country. 147 districts in the country have not seen even a single case of COVID-19 in the last seven days.
Total number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra stands at 20,13,353 while in Kerala the number is 8,99,932. Other states which add to the number of COVID-19 cases are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The total tally of the country has increased to 1,07,01,193 cases, according to the dashboard of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
As of now, almost 2.3 million people have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus and a total of 16 hospitalisations and three deaths have been reported. India is currently conducting the largest vaccination drive in the world with two vaccines – Oxford University – AstraZeneca vaccine, Covishield and Bharat Biotech International Limited’s Covaxin.
