NEW DELHI: In order to increase ‘physical literacy’ amongst physical education teachers in Delhi government schools, the Government of Delhi has mandated that 1,000 teachers will undergo a five-day online training programme on “Physical Literacy”. The announcement was made by Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Delhi, on Monday, August 31. He inaugurated the online training programme which is being conducted in collaboration with noted badminton player Pullela Gopichand’s sports foundation.

While speaking to the teachers at the inauguration, Sisodia said, “During these COVID-19 times, your role has become even more crucial because our students are confined to their rooms. This is hampering the physical growth of all the students.” He went on to say that physical and mental development are inter-linked. “Today, when our children are not able to step out, it has become the need of the hour to introduce the concept of physical literacy,” said Sisodia.

The online training programme is designed to help students understand the importance of regular and rigorous physical training and to make teachers more aware of the concept.
